At the moment I'm using a ONE-FOR-ALL remote control to flick between my onkyo av receiver / TV / sky box etc in my living room .... Im thinking of moving all this equipment to under the stairs and hoping to just keep my TV and speakers in the living room.

Question is how would I then be able to control each of the devices independently from the living room ..I.e.

Turning amp volume up & down
    Changing sky channel
    Turning TV on and off

    Many thanks for help

Yes you have a choice of either some sort of IR relay system and use your own remote or remotes or you could upgrade your remote to one that has a dedicated base station included.

The Harmony ultimate looks pretty cool if you fancy a change of remote, as well as using whichever remote you get you can also download an app and use your phone or tablet as an extra control.

thanks for replies... im hoping to put some new ceiling speakers into my kitchen. These would be also be wired back to under the stairs.

Speakers - I'm thinking of the http://www.polkaudio.com/rc60i/d/1184 speakers as they seem to have got good reviews etc.

Amplifier - possibly http://www.richersounds.com/product/amplifiers-receivers/cambridge-audio/topaz-am1/camb-topaz-am1-blk At only 20W/ch would this be enough to drive the speakers ?

Control - 3.5mm jack input on kitchen worktop to locally plug in iphone / ipad etc.
would like to possibly be able to send music to amp and control via phone/ipad over home network ?

Any other suggestions to control / speakers / amps would be welcomed !
    budget around £250 total

    thanks for looking / advice

I use the Harmony Smart Control and think its absolutely fantastic...

    Harmony Smart Control

Although it doesn't have the touchscreen... the remote is discrete, has a great feel and you don't have to recharge it!
