control lights with Macbook Pro

I am fairly new to the home automation market. I've had an ir light switch for years and have controlled my tv from my phone (from 3 feet lol) but this was years ago.

Basically i wanna turn my spotlights off via my macbook. And eventually an ipod touch or android phone
