Are panasonic liable for a 2year guarantee on the AE100?. I ask because its pretty obvious to me that the blue polarizer has degraded due to heat on my unit. Its done 2300 hours (on low power so over 5000 actual hours, I guess) and is over a year old.
I beleive the EU directive for a 2year warrantee started from 1st Jan 2002.

A warranty is in addition to your statutary rights and cannot be forced on a supplier.

It is basically a promise of good will.

However, your statutary rights cover you up to 6 six years after you purchase a product therefore you are entitled to a repair or you can return the item and receive a partial refund as compensation. You are not entitled to a full refund as you have had use of the product for a length of time.

If the repair is not permanent you still have the same rights and can claim for a further repair and so on.

Look up "consumer rights" on a search engine for UK sites.

What you're looking for is the "Sale of Goods Act 1979 (amended with Sale and Supply of Goods Act 1994)"

A quick overview can be found on thebbc site.

    Cheers.

My AE100 (purchased March '02) came with a 2 year pan European warranty.

Most UK sourced units seem to ship with just one year warranty :(

Doesn't matter to me - sold it last December, but if I'd kept it, looks like it would have been critical.

Can't see the 6 year thingy being of any use here really.
