    Hi,

I'm considering and X box one X as an 'all in one' solution for gaming, UHD Bluray and 4K streaming.

I'm a PS4 user currently, but dont spend a lot of time gaming although I do use it for standard blurays and streaming. My kids do use the PS4 for minecraft and I play battlefield type games now and then if I have time.

I've been having at look at gumtree, eBay etc and there seems to be a lot of people trying to sell this machine already and I'm confused as to why?

Quite a number of adds say 'would trade/ Swap for PS4 Pro' ... This is also confusing as, on paper, the X box One X is significantly more powerful than the PS4 Pro.

Am I missing something? Is there a reason this machine shouldn't be at the top of my wanted list?

    Many thanks.

    Nope, not at all.

I think there’s a lot of buyers remorse going on...

Or people buying it hoping it would sell out and make a profit.

If you don't spend a lot of time gaming then maybe a dedicated player would be better or an Xbox One S for a lot less money rather than a Xbox One X.

Why though? Not as much as a leap forward as people expected?

I'm also interested in the super sampling mode, as I have as Sony HW40 projector, but don't envisage upgrading to a 4K projector anytime soon.

I've looked at some YouTube videos and this feature does seem effective on a 1080p display.

Yes, a lot of people going to disappointed hoping to make a big profit on the Scorpio it seems, but it's never going to appreciate long term.

I do game, and I like very good visuals, I just don't get as much time to do so as I'd like .

I’ve seen quite a few Pro owners get one then decide to stick with the Pro as the prefer that eco system.

Some bought it and couldn’t justify keeping it due to time constraints vs cost.

Some just wanted to see what the fuss was about.

Some wanted to turn a profit on the Scorpio Edition.

    And so on...

What I would say is that pretty much every comparison I’ve seen vs Pro and PC on YouTube favours the Xbox and makes it the best value for money for high end gaming/4K Blu Ray money can buy!

Well I bought an X and sold my original Xbox one and I'm happy with mine......even went and got a 4k tv to take advantage of the extra resolution.

That's great, thanks .... Is it also true that you can network 2 or more X box 1's and play multiplayer over a home network without needing to pay a subscription or buy more than one copy of the game?

This would be a major attraction as my kids love to play each other, and with the 1s being so cheap (Relatively!) I could be tempted to ditch the PS4 and go all X Box with an X and a 1s

Not necessarily, you can share digital games but for MP it would still be over Live and would have to have Gold but that can be shared also.

Yes that’s true although couldn’t they Co-op on games that allow it? Which would be like a pseudo local-lan?

Well Ive played a few 4K discs on the X and they are great. And its the most powerful console for games too. So no need to consider really.

It my be the most powerful console out there. But this will only show if game developers are willing to put time and effort into getting the most out of the console. As it stands this isnt the case apart from ms exclusives, which is looking pretty Barron for the foreseeable future.
I can't see 3rd party developers going the extra mile if the user base isn't there.
Currently the xbox one x is outside to top 100 on Amazon UK in pc and video games.
If you don't play games much your best bet would be the xbox one s.

It's only just come out. Is it really that much work for them to get it to run at higher fps with 1080p or more, given that they do similar for the PC anyway?

Why do you say that? Pretty much all the third party game comparisons I’ve seen favour the X by quite a margin. This is Devs going back and patching old games, which won’t yield as good results as developing with it in mind to start with.

It used to be that games were developed with a ‘lead platform’ which would be a console and then ported over. This just isn’t the case anymore, games are developed on PC and are then ported across to both Xbox and PlayStation, so both get ports. Where MS have been smart here is they have made it ridiculously easy to port from PC to the new Xbox One X. It takes them very little time to get it running with the high resolution textures and at a decent resolution. This then gives them more time to properly optimise it and squeeze more out of it. Going forwards I can only see the delta between the Pro and the X increasing as Devs get used to the hardware.

Definitely get the X if you want the best looking multi plats. It also makes crap games magically good with the power of 4k and hdr magic dust.

If exclusives like Gears, Halo, Forza and more gears, halo and Forza float your boat then dive in......true-blue.....TRUE BLUE!!!

Looks like I lost him at the second gears mention.

This is factually incorrect. We've already seen huge gulfs between games on the Pro and X. And the Pro has the advantage of being out longer so the dev tools will be more refined and devs are used to it. That hasn't stopped huge differences in games like Wolfenstein 2 and Battlefront 2 in the X's favour.

Anyway this is the last I'm going to say on the matter.
Each console has their own merit. However, the OP rarely plays games so I think the s would be the better option.

Thanks for all the input, having looked at various for ‘for sale’ listings it does seem that the majority are people hoping to make a few quid on ‘new, sealed’ Scorpio’s.

For clarity, my kids game all the time, often on my Sony HW40, so something like supersampling or whatever it’s called could be useful!?

I do game myself, but probably no more than 2-3hrs per week.. but I appreciate great visuals just like everyone else

Just look at pretty much any of the digital foundry articles comparing Pro and XBox One X third party games. You’d expect a 40% power advantage to result in a 40% better resolution, but in many games so far there’s anywhere between 50% and 100% better resolution along with higher resolution textures (which is where the real gains are). The extra RAM and bandwidth is what is leading to the much better visuals on the X.

Only reason to buy a Pro over an X now is if you really like the look of the Sony first party games and/or you want to jump into VR.

Or you want to save £160 for a slight downgrade.

I've played Wolfenstein on both Xbox One S and X and I certainly don't notice 'a huge gulf' between the two, I bet if I played Wolfenstein on Pro and compared to the X version I wouldn't notice any difference at all but then I'm not digital foundry so my eyes can't zoom into 300% to spot every micro improvement.

Do you not find the X spinning 4K discs too noisy? I went from the S to the X and found the S far more bearable for playing 4K discs.

On the X there seems to be a big noise increase from playing standard Blu-rays to 4K Blu-rays.

It certainly is a little noisier with 4K discs yes but it didn't worry me - I quite liked the noise it made for some reason! Certainly nowhere near as annoying as an old Blu-ray player I used to have years ago. Or the Xbox 360 generally!
