ok, here is one for all you conservatory owners...

just moving house into one that has a small conservatory on it.

the mrs is pestering me to go furniture shopping - so here's a question.

Why is all conservatory furniture cane or bamboo?..... i hate this stuff... and am looking for something more contemporay and modern...

Im starting to think that it must be this way for a reason... any insights appreciated.

Thx
Kev

cause bamboo an cane furniture are cheap and they (conservatry company) normally flog it for free if you spend thousand of pounds on a new conservatry. Personnaly I hate the stuff....

There is no reason to have cane furniture as normal will do, it is just style. Many have normal in theirs and is probably more comfortable and better made.

I think the cane furniture is because; it is probably harking back to the colonial day’s style and as digit says cheap.

Be careful in your colour choice if going for a normal suit, as dark colours will fade, light ones will but not as noticeable.

Does anybody ever sit in their conservatory? Get a nice day bed ,and let your old dear feed you grapes

We bought a pine frame 2 seater sofa and chair with white calico/cotton cushions from Ikea.
They make a nice change from the usual fare.
Price was about £90 for both a few years ago.
Neither the wood nor the covers have faded.

Have you seen the price of leather these days ? It's not that expensive! But I wouldn't put it in a conservatory, the sun will dry it out in no time.

Keanyboy - the wife sits in ours to get away from the kids for a bit - not in winter though as we only heat it to about 10c to keep the plants alive.

I was advised not to have solid wood furniture in a conservatory (and this was from someone who sells it!). The extreme temperature changes, and strong sunlight, cause wood to warp or split, and joints to weaken.

Metal and glass is OK, but cane is used because can handle the temperature changes.

We've got a couple of Lloyd loom chairs, which are quite comfy. We were thinking about getting leather, but I suspect our conservatory would kill the finish in no time.

My parent have had wood framed furniture in there conservatory and it is south facing so gets very cold and extremely hot and there furniture is still OK.

I would imagine metal or glass furniture bit uncomfortable also the glass furniture could be dangerous.:D

www.lowcostcane.co.uk I have 2 cane furniture companies and the reason for putting cane is because of the extreme weather drops. Solid wood will warp and split. Leather would be to sticky in the summer. There is now way more modern furniture as well as the traditional. www.lowcostcane.co.uk

Obviously it's down to personal choice - cane furniture tends to be used because it's light so you can move it around easier and also fopr its appearance - I personally think it's more appropriate for the conservatory, it just looks better. I'd imagine leather would end up cracking in direct sunlight anyway. We went to Haddon House Furniture after looking at this site about conservatory furniture. There were a few articles about why cane furniture etc which helped make up our mind.
