If I get a surround receiver and only want it for the surround and want my Audiolab amp to run the front 2 speakers for the music a when in surround again for the front two. How would I connect the two up?

AV reciever front pre-outs to an input on the 2ch, connect fronts to 2 ch then rears centre etc to AV amp, cd player to 2 ch and multi channel sources to AV amp.

    Hope that helps

If audio lab has processor inputs connect AV preouts to these so you bypass the preamp in the audiolab so you dont have to mess around with volumes nobs on both every time you want to use them
