Hi I am preparing for when i am able to set up my new home cinema in the future. just a quick question. can i use this cable http://www.tvcables.co.uk/cgi-bin/tvcables/PGV372.html from sky box scart to component in on the receiver. then use the component out from receiver to tv? would i also need phone leads to send the sound or will this cable do it all? i only have a basic sky box so no optical out on it only the red/white phonos.
thanks

No, Scart cables are not reversible. That is a component to Scart cable, not the other way round.

You would also need something to convert RGB to component unless you have an unusual SKY box that has component out.

You could go RGB to component to A/V amp
RGB to S-video to A/V amp
Composite to A/V amp

First would be best quality, last would be worst.

What other sources do you have?

my plan is to connect my dvd to the receiver via component and optical then run component from the receiver to the tv. i just need to get the sky connected and was hoping to be able to do this via the receiver so that i can have just the one cable going into the tv.
can i get a scart to component cable then?
does component carry sound aswell or will i need to run phonos from the sky box to the receiver?
sorry i am a complete newb to this stuff.
:)

OK, if you want the best quality option you need something like this to convert your Sky box RGB to component. This also splits out the audio which you would connect to a stereo input on your A/V amp. You could alternatively connect the phonos from the SKY box, whatever is more convenient.
