    Hi guys

    Happy new year

I got an xbox for xmas and want to connect it to my plasma home cinema set up. Currently I have the cable supplied from Xbox to AV2 on Viera Plasma. However, what is the best set up?

    I currently have :

    Video
Component from Pioneer DVD to Viera Plasma TV
Scart from Sky+ to RGB Scart on Viera TV
    Audio
Optical lead from Sky + to Pioneer AV receiver
Coax digital from Pioneer DVD to Pioneer AV receiver

Whats the best bet for connecting xbox for optimum sound and picture?

    Many thanks

    Kris

i have this i believe so i presume the best picture i could get when i eventually order a plasma is through js rgb>vga adapter. is this correct?

what about these people with talk of chipped xboxes and their uber connection? i don't really want to chip my xbox as i'm worried i'll (or a friend) go online drunk and forget to flick the switch.

There are a couple of posts in this forum and in the Gaming forum regarding soft-modding an Xbox, which does not ban you from Xbox Live as it doesn't involve a chip at all.

Something to do with using Splinter Cell with Action Replay and unlocking a previously hidden video mode on the Xbox.

If my technical explanation is unclear probably best searching for it...

I have my xbox connected via the component input i got the cable imported from www.lik-sang.com and it provides me with High Def as well as an optical out. There is no higher quality way of connecting an xbox

component is ideal but if that is already inplay and AMP doesnt switch component the RGB scart is not too far behind quality wise (ignoring soft mods and HD output....)

To clarify - the RGB Scart goes from Xbo output into RGB scart input on Plasma. How do i connect the xbox via optical into the optical input on receiver?
    thanks

Can someone please clarify the benefits of using Optical as opposed to the 2xRCA audio inputs on my component lead?

Never used Optical before so very interested to know what it's all about (and is it just for audio?!).

I've got a Pio home cinema surround setup which I was planning to put the 2xRCA audio inputs into, if that makes any difference...

    :lease:

i believe more than 95% of xbox games (if not all) are encoded in Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound (and very few DTS titles as well), to experience this, you need to use the optical output from the MS advanced pack or MS hidef pack

if you have an A/V receiver that has an optical input and DD/DTS decoders (all modern receivers have these as standards), and you have the advance pack (or hidef pack), i suggest you make use of these to make the most out of your xbox/setup

and yes, that optical connection is just for audio

DD in games makes a HUGE difference (imo)

Try playing games like Halo/Halo2 and RS3 in 5.1 DD.

    Absolutely brilliant.

I'll never go back to playing games in Mono/Stereo...

Great, thanks - got all 3 of the games you mention (finished Halo 2 at the weekend, disappointing...) - in fact I play RS3 in clan every Monday night so maybe that'll help me work out where those footsteps are coming from... :D

    Are optical cables expensive?

You can buy the Official advanced scart pack (which includeds an optical cable) for around £20 (alternatively, if the optical cable breaks on said pack, which it has a good chance of doing since it's a shi**y design, you can buy an optical cable separately for around £5-10.

Halo 2 was a touch disappointing (looks fantastic though) but i've just started it again on Legendary. Holy Sh*t, if you though Legendary was hard last time

RS3 has a superb soundtrack. I think it should definately help you out with regard to footsteps. Surround effects are great.

Just listen when your comrades reload directly behind you. Sometimes you 'd think they were behind the sofa! (Probably helps if you have a good amp/speaker set-up though!)

SCART (RGB) is the one to use better than S-video

Cool – I have ordered an Xbox connector cable from Amazon that's provides RGB SCART, S-Video, RCA and Optical outputs.

Should get it next week – just got to connect to Xbox live now and I am away )

    Thanks all

Got mine on Ebay for about £15 - for video it has componant/Scart/S-Video/Composite and for Audio Co-ax/optical/RCA L & R. Games are awsome through my Bose System and as a DVD player, does a pretty decent job.... Just need that plasma now :)
