    Hi there.

I have an XBOX and am about to buy Videologic's ZXR-500 speakers.

I just want to know what kind of amp do I need? I have an old JVC hi-fi stereo - but does the amp have to be special in some way!!?

    Thanks,

    Matthew

these speakers arent really suitable for the xbox.

they need a sound card which is giving out a line level (not amplified) or a dvd player with a built in dolby digital / DTS decoder.

the only other option is an av amp with pre-outs on it.

you can't run run an amplified signal into these speakers because they have amps in them , and you need somthing to decode the 5.1 signal.

have you got a 5.1 soundcard in your pc ??

if yes has it got optical in ???

you could take the optical out from the xbox and let your pc decode the 5.1 and then output it back to the speakers.

otherwise you need to start looking for a cheap dolby digital amp and some used speakers, this will be money better spent.

    Thanks Giz.

My PC is upstairs and I do not have a 5.1 soundcard in it anyway.

Looks like I will have to get a Dolby Digital amp and some speakers - do you have any recommendations - I'm not particularly loaded.

    Cheers
    Matthew
