I recently bought a Samsung 40" TV with product code 6120 but I don't think that this question is brand specific. I am considering buying a sound bar for it but wonder whether one is necessary. I already have an old Technik's stereo sound system with speakers attached to the wall of the living room. Can I connect the TV through this system? On the back it has red and white sockets, one pair labelled 'Phono' and another pair labelled 'CD/AUX'. Can I connect the TV to either of these and which should it be? I would also like to keep using it with a Sony CD player. Will this cause a problem?

Thank you in advance for any help that you can give.

    Robert

CD/AUX is fine as an input to the stereo. What outputs are on the TV? Hopefully Phono outs.

There are no stereo phono audio outputs on any modern set these days.
Just get a 3.5mm stereo minijack to 2 RCA Phono lead and plug it into the TV's headphone socket.

The TV came with two sets of connectors. One is a mini-jack connected to three sockets which I suspect is to do with video. The other is a mini-jack connected to a pair of sockets. I hope that this one is for audio. I already have a pair of leads which will connect this to the stereo system. However, the socket for this on the back of the TV is labelled "Component in" which suggests that it is not the right thing. I can't find a headphone socket with all the other connections. Where would you expect it to be if there is one?

Thank you for your help so far,
    Robert

From what I've found it has Optical/HDMI(obviously), but no 3.5mm HP out..

What do you have in mind for connecting it to?

I hoped that I might be able to connect it to my old Technik's stereo system and via it's amplifier to speakers already on the wall.

It is a Technik's SA-K2L Stereo Cassette Receiver. We've had it so long that I can't remember how long. It could be 20 years.

I tried that with a TV once. It permanently displayed a headphone symbol.
