Hi there, first time user of this forum - hope I do this correctly !

Just bought Skyplus - brilliant. Some movies are broadcast in Dolby 5.1 and as I have a Sony DAVS300 home cinema unit, thought I could link them together.

I can see an optical out put on Skyplus box, but only phono inputs on Sony box.

Is there any way to access the dolby receiver and hear movies through all the speakers ?

Or am I asking too much of what is described as "an entry level home cinema system" ?

not familiar with DAV300 if it has optical or caox digital (converter £15 from maplin) you can if not the using the phono out will give you DPL or DPL2 if sony has it

Thanks for the very prompt response.

    Can I just ask....

Have just been on the wesite for the converter -
can see that optical cable from Skyplus will go into the input of the converter but the output is only via one phono socket - thought there would be two phono outputs?
Which input on the Sony DAVS300 do I use? It only has Phono inputs (red & White)

If you can throw some light on this I'd be v. grateful

The converter is only of use if you need to change an optical output to a coaxial input, without searching the web I believe the SONY does not have inputs for an external DD5.1 sound source so the best you can get is DS, ProLogic I & II using the twin phonos.

Thanks Starburst - you're correct, the Sony does not have inputs for external DD5.1 - rather than forking out for another compatale amplifier etc, I can make do with the phono to phono connections.

    These forums are absolutely brilliant
