Connecting Samsung PS42B TV Samsung HT-D450 and SKY HD

Hi, new to this forum so please excuse me if this has been covered before.
I have a Samsung Plasma tv and Sky HD. Just bought Samsung HT-D450 home cinema.
Used optical cable from Sky to DVD player, HDMI from DVD player to TV, and HDMI from Sky to TV.
All works fine apart from, when watching sky with home cinema in D.IN mode, you only get sound from front speakers, not the rears.
All fine, 5.1, when watching DVD.
My mate has a similar set up, Samsung TV, home cinema, SkyHD, but older models, and the sound comes from all the speakers while watching Sky.
I'm disappointed to say the least.
Am I expecting to much from the system.

What channels are you watching? as only certain channels on Sky output DD 5.1 and that depends on the program / film on that channel too.

AFAIK Sky's output over HDMI is stereo. Can you switch your unit to playback the optical input (which does carry 5.1).

Hi there, must it have DD on the information panel to play surround sound?

If you mean the Sky Information panel then yes
