One thought, buy a dvd with progressive scan and connect it via component to the plasma. You'll want a component connection for the plasma to get the best results and rgb or s-video will be poorer substitutes respectively, on a screen which will either reward or punish depending on what and how it goes in.

The 980 does, but it'll probably not look as good as digital. If you are going to pair it up with a digi box then you could daisy chain them by hooking the NTL rgb scart socket to the recorder and then the rgb out of the recorder to an rgb to vga box to plasma which would offer the best result. Try lookin on the dvdplusrw.org site's forum for more info on this player.
