    I can currently connect my Dell Axim X30 to the internet by using IR to connect it to my Nokia 8210 which dials my ISP. This gives me a very slow connection.

    I wish to buy a new mobile.

    * How can I increase the connection speed?
    * Would a GPRS phone lead to a greater connection speed using the same method?
    * Would a 3G phone lead to a greater connection speed using the same method?
    * Should I be using a different method with a GPRS/3G phone?

    All help appreciated.

    Use HSCSD (Orange contract only with a suitable phone) or GPRS over 2.5G or use 3G.

    Greater speed but you no longer dial up (except HSCSD). Note most PDA's are limited to 115Kbps over IRDA. Currently you are using CSD at 9K6bps, HSCSD is 28K8bps (in the UK), GPRS offers around 35 - 40Kbps and 3G around 150 - 200Kbps, but theoretically higher speeds are possible.

    As above. Greater speed but you no longer dial up.

    Yes. See here for setup info:

    Has anyone used a data contract card on a laptop or pda?

    I bought an audiovox cf card to use my dell X50v as a phone, Vodafone sell a contract data card on the 3g network similar speed to adsl.

    Seems a good system for browsing, anyone?
