Great forum guys. Lurking has been a big help.

I have just acquired a bunch of new toys and am having some problems connecting it up. There are 2 problems. Passing the XBox signal to the TV and sending the audio output to the amp.

    The equipment list is:

    TV: Toshiba 36ZP18P
    DVD: Pioneer DV-545
    AMP: Pioneer VSX-C300
    XBox

    Connections:

DVD => TV : SCART cable
DVD => Amp: Digital Out Optical
TV => Amp: Optical Cable from DA-1 on TV
XBox => DVD: Standard XBox cable with SCART adapter

    Problems:

    1. XBox signal not being passed through DVD to TV. I just get the DVD signal.

    2. Audio signal not transferring to Amp.

    Considerations:

    1. For the DV-545 is there a setting that changes the signal from DVD to XBox or should it be automatic when the XBox powers on?

    2. I think the DA-1 Optical connection on the 36ZP18P is for input only. Is this true? If so, how do I send digital audio signals to the Amp. I would much rather use the amp and speaker set up rather than the TV's for audio.

Sorry about the long post and I hope someone can help an AV newbie.

Your best bet is to get an XBOX RGB SCART lead, this also has optical output for 5.1. Then you can run DD5.1 into your amp, and also get a much better picture on your TV.

The optical socket on your TV is an input only, the way to get sound from your TV is to use the stereo phono output on the back and route it into the amp.

    ReTrO,

The optical output for the SCART cable, is it an additional socket on the adapter that you plug a fibre-optic cable into? The Xbox website does not make it clear. If so, what type of fibre-optic cable?

    Thanks for the tips.

I am unsure of the exact cable connections but I think it is a normal ToSlink socket, so you will need a normal ToSlink optical lead.
