Connecting Latop to Sony 32V4000

Hi there, yesterday I bought a Sony 32V4000 (thanks to the help/advice of people on here). I am pleased so far, thank you.

I have connected my HP laptop to the screen using a male to male vga cable.
Now I have got so far to where it's showing my desktop background on the tv, but that's all.
I can play/see videos on my laptop screen but on the Sony screen it doesn't show anything (no icons, mouse videos, nothing) but the desktop background.

Can anyone please inform me of how to perhaps solve this?

Thank you very much

By the sounds of it you need to change the screen the laptop is using.

If you look at the function keys on the top of the keyboard somewhere around F7 there will be an icon for swapping between display modes. pressing the function key and that key (probably F7) at the same time may change the screens being used for display purposes.

Option B would be to go to the control panel select Appearance and Themes or display and looking in the settings tab. From there you should be able to enable the television display.
