Hi, been lurking for a while and now jumpin' in...

Over the years I've collected various bits of kit and now have a right old mess behind the tv in terms of wires, scarts cables, toslink cables and loads of fluff I daren't vacuum for fear of knocking a cable out....

    Here's what I've got....

    Television: Sony KV-28FX20U
    1 x RF Aerial Input
    2 x Phono (L&R Audio)
    AV1 & AV2 Scarts

    DVD: Toshiba SD 220E
    1 x Scart
Audio Out - TOS Optical, Digital Coax & Analogue Phono (L&R)

    NTL Set Top Box:
    2 x Scart (1 labelled VCR & 1 labelled TV)
    RF Coax (labelled TV)
    RF Coax (labelled Antennea)

    VHS - Old Panasonic
    AV1 & AV2 Scarts
    Analogue Phono (L&R)
    1 x RF Coax (In)
    1 x RF Coax (Out)

    Surround Sound Amp
    Sony STR-DB 930

    Remotes
DVD, Surround sound amp, TV, VHS & NTL.

I'm looking for the neatest and reasonable quality method of hooking all of this together. The Surround sound amp has more connections on the back than you'd care to count. Not only am I struggling with the best way to connect it all up, but also which remote to use for what - I know this sounds daft but (for example the Sony surround sound remote will control the TV (most functions), the Amp itself and some of the VHS functions (but not all). Also the NTL remote only does the Cable box but which remote should I use to change the AV input into the TV with?,,,, ARHGHR  (BTW, is there a good remote that I could replace all of the above with?)

I need to be able to timeshift stuff from NTL onto VHS for the Kids, I think I've got the Surround sound sorted out (I mute the TV and use the Amp for sound, it's how to set the VHS up to record and playback that's driving me mad (e.g. what channel do I set it to record on the vhs and what channel on the tv do I set to play back the Vhs?)

Anyone with the patience of a saint to reply in idiot's step by step :lesson: would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks....

    Simon

    OK OK OK
You will need 3 scart cables 2 very good ones on one good one lets start at the top.........
Aerial From Wall to VCR, VCR to TV
Scarts from VCR AV1 to ntl VCR scart, ntl TV scart to TV AV1 ntl set to RGB
DVD Scart to AV2 set to S-video
Audio out from DVD (digital) to amp
Audio out from ntl to AMP Analogue stereo pair....
Same for VCR if you want.....
now to record ntl set VCR to AV1 and set ntl timers etc......
As long as DVD outputs S-video by scart and TV AV2 accepts S-Video you are laughing..............
Oh and remotes depends on ntl box......... but see Phillips Pronto and Harmony H655 remotes.....

    hornydragon,

Cheers, just what I needed, funny thing is if it had been a PC in bits or a network I'd have had it sweet in no time, so little time so many gadets! ;-)
