Connecting external speakers to iPod dock??

Guys,

Am hoping you can answer this question! I have a Hitachi iPod docking station with a "Aux in" port and a seperate pair of external pc speakers.

I would like to connect these speakers to my iPod but I guess I will need some sort of splitter so the audio output can diverted to the external speakers. Am I right in thinking so and is this possible?
