Hi i am new to this site and this is my 1st post.

I have sky+ in my living room and have an old normal sky box from my dad house that is no longer in use.

I wish to connect this to the satellite to receive the free to air channels the the bedroom. What cable do i need and what connectors. I have an F connector for the back of the sky box but dont know which one to use for the dish.

Also will sky be able to tell that i have this additional box, if so what could they do?

you would need to run another length of cable from the lnb on the sat dish to your new box.....and thats it... simple as..... (the only stumbling block is how many outputs your LNB has, if its an old sky+ install it may be only a dual output LNB so you would have to swop it out for a Quad LNB.)

sky can't and won't do anything, you will get less than the normal free to air channels though unless you buy a freesat card from sky (£19.57) to enable the channels on the box...

The same connector as the box end.

 So just a standard F connector, It doesnt need to be a special outdoor one.

Sorry to sound dense but i'm a real novice at this sort of thing and before viewing this site had absolutly no clue

Just a standard F-connector but ensure that the connection is well weather/waterproofed using self-amalgamating tape or a weather-boot (not as good IMHO)

    Use Self-Amalgamating tape

Fitting rubber boots to LNB cables

You have to have a veiwing card no channels will be displayed just a blue screen with a message saying insert viewing card.

If you give sky a call they will send you one and add it to your monthly bill

With no viewing card inserted the BBC1/ITV1 channels will revert to the default of BBC London/ITV Central, C4 and FIVE will not appear on the EPG and free-to-view channels such as Sky3/Setanta Sports News will not be viewable
    BUT
all FTV channels can be seen
The card costs a one-off payment of £19.57
There is no monthly bill unless you subscribe, in which case there is no charge for the card. Minimum subscription is £16.50/month

Q: I already have Sky digital satellite equipment - what else do I need?

A: All you need to gain access to the free channels available on the digital satellite platform is a Freesat from Sky viewing card, which costs just £19.57. If you’d like to access the interactive services available, you’ll also need a working phone line. To purchase a viewing card please phone Sky on 08448 244 400.

    Channels available without subscription
FREESAT from Sky - What's on TV - FREESAT from Sky
