can someone please tell me the best way without losing recording quality
how to connect a panasonic VCR (NV-HV61) and DVD recorder (DMRES10)
so they are looped thought each other (meaning i only need to use one scart socket on the sky box)
and be able to record to both units from the sky box

thank you

Scart from VCR AV1 to the VCR scart of the skybox.

A fully wired scart from Skybox TV out to AV2 of the DVDR.

A fully wired scart from AV1 of the DVDR to an RGB capable socket on the TV [ probably AV1 ]

If I remember correctly, the ES10 will not intake RGB but will pass it through from sky.

You can record from sky on the DVDR by selecting AV2 as the input on the DVDR.
You will also be able to see sky when the DVDR is Off.

You can record on the VCR by selecting AV1 as the input on the VCR.
You will be able to playback the VCR when sky is switched off.... and the DVDR is switched off, or if ON, if AV2 is selected as the input.

hi, tonight i tried connecting my panasonic DMR-EZ48VEBK - DVD recorder & VCR combo unit the same way but for some reason when the machine is turned on all i get is a black screen but i still get the audio
but when i put it into standby the sky picture shows up as normal
i tried recording and it records just a black screen with audio

its not faulty scart leads

thanks

On the EZ-48 make sure that AV2 is set to RGB/Video.

Functions-To Others-Setup-Connection-AV2 Settings

and also check that AV1 is set to RGB1 (same menu), and that all scarts are pushed fully home.

.

thats how i connected it i also tried RGB2 but that was just the same

cheers

Check that you are using fully wired scarts [ All 21 pins present.]

they are the same scarts i used for my DMRES10 so i know there not faulty both leads have 21 pins

thanks

Do you get a black screen from the EZ48 under all circumstances?

What is set as the input ? What does the display show?

If you try to play a tape of a disc is it still black?

Do you know this is a working unit?

Have you used it elsewhere?

it plays VHS and DVD's with no problems it records freeview with no problems
tonight is the first time i found the problem when connecting it to my sky box for the first time

AV1 to AV1 on my TV
AV2 to TV scart on the sky box

as you said in the old post

i still have around 26 days left on the warranty it was from amazon

thanks

Are both the AV sockets on your TV "RGB Enabled"?.
It maybe only AV2 is ?,

Cheers.

A few things need double checking here, to avoid a possible mis-diagnosis.

The problem being that scarts carry both composite and RGB signals in parallel, and so according to settings in the DVDR and the way the TV does its AV switching the system behaviour can indicate one problem when it's another.

You get a signal through when the EZ48 is off ... which suggests that an RGB signal is being supplied by sky, is being successfully delivered by scart to the EZ48, and is successfully passed on to the TV... The important thing to confirm is that it is RGB that reaches the TV and not Composite.

If you are sure of that then, it confirms that the source type is correct and is being successfully delivered by fully wired scarts.

Which leaves only the EZ48 as the possible cause.... and which would indicate that either the input settings of the EZ48 are incorrect, the unit has a status glitch [ reset-able ] or the unit has a more significant internal fault [ returnable.]

So confirm RGB is what is getting through when unit is off.

Recheck that the TV scart of sky is being used as the source if not and that RGB is correctly selected on the TV.

Recheck the AV2 input setting of the EZ48 [ Functions / to others / setup / connections ].... Set to RGB.

If still no results try a power reset. [10 minute Mains disconnection ]
If still no results reset unit back to factory settings ... then recheck AV2 input settings.

If still no results - return unit.
