connecting a laptop to a pc as as removable souce

my mate has a pc but has a small hardrive.he's wanting to use his old laptop to tranfer files which has a little more space on its hard drive.
can he tranfer from and to the laptop easily ??

If they each have an ethernet port then they can be "networked" using a single ethernet crossover cable. He can then "share" a folder on the laptop so that the PC can read and write to it.
