Connecting a fan to RF2 output?

Hi,

Please let me know if this is crazy.

I am thinking the 9v output from the RF2 jack could drive an 8cm pc case fan. I am thinking of a way to cool my amp as it gets quite hot. This way it would be switched on and off when the sky is.

If this would work then I am off to get the fan today.

You might be better using the USB output, if you can get a USB fan.

Also the RF power is present all the time, if it wasn't how would you be able to switch the sky box back on from your other room.

I never use RF2 hence why its available for a fan. Thanks for the info about permanently on though.

Is the usb slot activated for power?

I believe so, I'm sure people have charged mobile phones and IPods etc off it. About all its good for at the moment.

Heres an example of somebody using to power a switch.

Thanks for the steer towards the USB slot. It works a treat.

£2.82 8cm case fan, spliced to an old usb cable, now blows cold air over my hot amp whenever sky box is on. Switches off when sky box goes off too! Exactly what i wanted.

Details here for those interested.

Thanks again.
