Can anyone tell me if you can connect a digital camera to the HD5 via the usb socket. Is the socket standard usb, or do you need an adapter like the ipod? As I would like to use the HD5 to back up pics on holiday etc.

Haven't bought one yet but this my be the deciding factor!

The supplied cable is standard USB type A male at the pc end and mini usb at the hd-5 end (cable is, incidently, exactly the same as my old net-md one)

The mini-usb connector fits perfectly the digital port in my Canon 300D digital camera, tho i stress i havnt tried any transfers with it - but it fits perfectly.

Problem is that mini-usb comes in identical 4 and 5 pin varients and i cant really tell which this is soooooooo.... good luck

Won't work as it's a USB client, not a host. There are potential workarounds, but if they don't work then you're left with a lemon. The iRiver H320, iAudio X5 (which is a USB2.0 host) and the iPod Photo (which has probably the widest range of fully tested cameras) would be a much better bet.

Thanks for the advice, the usb bridge route might be the way to go. I do like the looks of the ipod, but battery life is so poor. So I looks like it'll be the HD5 as everything else in the house is sony, it'll keep the missus happy!
