I have downloaded the drivers from MS and I plug my controller into the PC via the play and charge cable. Windows recognizes it and says it is working properly, how ever it is not being picked up as a game controller. Any suggestions, including, stop trying it won't work!!

That is not going to work. You cannot use the wireless controller with a PC using the play and charge kit cable. If you want to use the wireless controller then you will need to buy the wireless reciever for it which costs £14.99. That plugs into a USB port on your PC and allows the controller to communicate with it wirelessly.

Thanks. I knew about the adapter, I was trying to be cheap! I thought the play and charge cable turned the controller into a wired connection, it never occured to me that it was still connecting to the 360 wirelessly.
