Ok, this really bugs me - my sister's postcode can get Sky's 3 for £30 (TV, broadband, phone). My mum's postcode, 10 miles away, can't, apparently because she can't get their free Base 2MB broadband - it says she can only get the 8MB Sky Connect broadband which is £17 a month.

My question is WHY? If Sky can technically pump broadband into her house, why can't she get the free Base package?

I could see the point if she couldn't get broadband at all, but she can (she's on BT Yahoo's 2Mb service just now).

Why can they give her 8Mb for 17 a month but not 2Mb for free?

For the Sky Connect they are paying BT for their line and connection. Her local exchange has not yet been converted (LLU) to enable Sky to use their own connections. They will not give something away that they are paying others to provide her service.
