I have decided to get myself a 42'' panny however I have had conflicting advise from dealers as to which model is the retail and which model is the commercial one and any differences between them.
Dealer 1 says he cannot get hold of the silver version for love nor money, but can get lots of black ones.
Dealer 2 says he has never seen the black one for retail sale and says the silver is retail only and has a number is stock, but can get the black one at a much cheaper price. (about £300 saving)

The question is, is there a difference other than colour?

Also does anybody know of any dealers that offer interest free credit on the screen only. So far panasonic only offer the credit on the whole DVD surround and plasma package. As I already have a very decent surround system I don't want to fork out for anything else I don't need.

As far as interest free credit goes, try unbeatable.co.uk . . . not sure about the model differences though, I haven't purchased my new Panny 42" yet.

I think the only difference is the colour, not 100% sure though.
I am also thinking of buying this screen but would like 0% too .
Cant find anywhere yet though

Its either this screen or the LG, which looks good for the ££

i think the consumer model has a special coating on the screen to reduce the radiation, the commercial screen doesn't have this coating,so has a very slightly better picture.....but if you have a pregnant wife, she might give birth to a baby with two heads or something like that

I think I'm right in saying that the terminal board on the commercial display (black) has BNC connectors rather than RCA on the domestic (silver) display.

Don't quote me on that though...

Or get it for £2699 including VAT from Richer Sounds using a new credit card with a six month 0% APR deal (such as http://www.capitalone.co.uk/ using the 'NO HASSLE PLATINUM' card).

That's the 37" price for richersounds I think.
The 42" is £3400 inc VAT

There was someone posting here though that they got supplied a non UK origin screen from Richersounds I think.

Apologies... you are quite right. The price I gave (£2699 inc) was for the 37" and the 42" is indeed £3400 inc.

THat's what I've just done, excent went for the Marbles card as I've already 'done' the Capital One card.

I think Moran Stanley are currently doing 0% for the lifetime of the balance xfer - they're a good company too.

Just take Richers extended warranty for £250 . . . doesn't matter where the screen was sourced from then as it's covered regardless.

Joe of www.tmfsolutions.co.uk has covered this previously and in great detail on this forum. A quick search of the forum should bring up the differences. Others have also covered the differences.

When doing a side by side comparison, please please ensure you're using the same source and connection. Otherwise, you'll be comparing setup rather than screen.

    All the best,

    Dr John Sim.

I had the luxury last week of seeing both of these at Audio T in Chandlers Ford.
They had both screens one in front of the other. The Black one had a number of Colour adjustments availabe (sorry don't know the technical term) that the silver one did not have the same amount available.
The other difference was the background colour when watching 4;3. On the Black model it is Black on either side of the image. On the Silver one it was white which was a real pain when watching late at night as it was very bright. You may be able to change this but we could not find it at the time.
After playing around in the shop we all agreed the Black one had a softer image, the other one was sharper.

Were the displays using the same input? You get far more colour adjustments on the TH-42PW5 using the AV and Component/RGB input than you do using the VGA (PC) input.

Also, you can choose if to illuminate the side panels when watching 4:3 material from the menu.

Well I played with a black one and silver one side by side for a whole day. The options on them are identical, the picture quality is identical. I think the black frame makes the picture more of a feature. I want black but could find anywhere with stock...

    Neil.
