Can anyone tell me how to find what region Code my PS3 is - i just want to confirm the Region Code so that i can start purchasing movies.

My dilemma is that i bought mine in Hong Kong and although it was bought from a high street chain there i seem to remember the box stating Region 3 on it which incidently would not be correct as HK should be in Region 1 - i have also tried playing a US DVD which i received an incomptible message.

So in short i was just wondering if there is a way to tell by either checking config settings/information on the software??

    Many thanks

    Ty

    You are confused.
DVD and BD region coding are not the same.
Hong Kong is DVD region 3 and BD region A.

Also blu-ray region A also applies to North America meaning you can buy US/Canadian blu-ray movies. Some UK ones are also region free although not all. All Fox/Disney/Buena Vista blu-rays are region locked. Some Sony ones are and some are not. Most if not all Warner and Paramount ones are region free. Check the following site out for a list of what is and isn't region free...

Thanks but is there a way of confirming on the hardware what the region code is for Bluray - as i dont want to purchase Casino Royale in US and find it not work.

Its just that i can loosely recall seeing a globe symbol with a 3 in the middle on the box - does that mean DVD region or Blu ray region ???? Help i am confused :)

Check the faq, the regions are explained in there.

There is no way of confirming in the hardware. If you have an HK console then it is definitely Region 3 for DVD and Region A for blu-ray. HK is definitely the same region for blu-ray as the US. You console's box should have both a 3 ( dvd region ) and an A ( blu-ray region ) on it.

If you look around online you can probably get a UK copy of Casino Royale for the same price or less. The US one is region A only where as the UK one is all regions ( A, B, and C ). Therefore the UK one will work on all PS3's and blu-ray players worldwide. Essentially you can buy either the US or UK version and they will both work on your console.
