    Hi,
I will be boring and explain my present set-up and I am asking/confirming remedy to problems.
Ok. I have a talktalk myview setup. However I have just moved to a newish property but unfortunately the local Tv signal is quite poor, especially in this bad weather. Can't see this changing much as the rest of the street report similar poor reception.
I don't want to go down the paying Sky route but it just so happens that the previous owner did have a Sky dish fitted with cable to the lounge(2 of!!) and one upstairs in the main bedroom. So my thought has turned to perhaps getting a 'Freesat box'(perhaps an additional one for upstairs).
Now my lounge TV is not in the same place as previous occupants had theirs therefore I would need to extend Sky cable/coax along skirting and around top of door etc - say 15 mtrs.
1st Question. Would the cable extension be ok to join another cable or must it be continuous from LNB.
2nd Question. A freesat box would not be a recording device but I am led to believe that I can connect a USB and record onto that using at a sort of hard disk. Is that correct?
3rd Question. Why is there 2 Sky cables to downstairs and which one do I extend?
4th Question it has been suggested that the F5s Sky box would be a good choice. Any thoughts please.
Hope I have explained that carefully and thankyou in advance for any constructive advice or answers.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
I thought at first that this wasn't a FS question, as that machine is not FS!
    1. Yes, carefully extend the cable if necessary.
    2. A FS machine is as likely as any other to be a recording machine - why not?
    3. The cables were to allow recording one channel while watching another - the same applies to FS.
    4. The "box" is not a FS one, so if you want FS you'll want a different one.
Here are all the current machines: Freesat.
You can still get some of the previous models.

You can get a connector to make a good join between two F connectors.

The Skybox (one word NOT two to stop confusion with Sky digiboxes) F5 does not have any EPG beyond "now and next" so is not very user friendly for making recordings.

    EDIT Omitted NOT

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply with some useful info. Much appreciated.

I don't know but rather doubt it.
I'd definitely recommend a proper FS machine.
