I know this is the LCD section and not the gaming forums, but some guys on the gaming forum suggested that it may be a problem with the TV as i have never used the HD ports before and they said it could be due to HDCP Handshaking, was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem, or has the same LCD or even better a PS3, here is the original post;

Hi, please be gentle with me as I'm new to this forum and not the most knowledgeable when it comes to new Technology.

I brought a PS3 on Launch on Friday the 23rd. Went home and hooked it up to my Philips 32PF5321 via my HDMI cable (the Game 'in house' cable). Had a great time playing Resistance and Motorstorm all night.... with no problems at all. Saturday morning I get up make myself a cuppa and get ready for a lazy day spent playing on my new toy, but to my horror when I switch it on I got no picture. I could hear the console was on as I could hear the Introduction melody. What I was faced with was scrambled picture....lines / snow / distortion.... you get the picture (no pun intended).

After switching the TV and PS3 off at the mains disconnecting the HDMI and then reconnecting it again (a few times)..... eventually I got it working again 1080i.... happy days. Well not really as this has now happened on at least 5 occasions when switching the machine on. It will turn on fine for 3 days or so, then i have a few bad days. After doing the above a few times I always manage to get it working. But something is clearly not right!

Also last weekend I lost the picture momentarily (1 or 2 seconds) whilst playing Motorstorm. This happened again at the weekend twice whilst playing Resistance.

Aside from that I love my PS3. I have watched Casino Royale on Blu Ray and it was jaw dropping!

Game said they would exchange the Console, but if problems continued they said it may be the TV, which is still under guarantee.... so not the biggest problem but a pain in the bum never the less.

Anyone had a similar problem?, or can anyone shed some light on the situation as it would be a great help?

I've not had any experience of this personally but apparently quite a few have.

You might find this article an interesting read:

His solution was to abandon it in favour of component but I have heard that starting the PS3 in the display settings mode can sometimes work for this problem too so you might want to try that.

He describes the process,

"(when you) switch the machine on you must hold the power button on for about 5 seconds until you hear the first beep. This will start the PS3 in display setup mode. Choose 576p or whatever it offers, then go into the display settings and add the resolutions you need - possibly 720p and 1080i. Then choose the audio connection you require ....... This eases the pressure on the TV getting confused to what it needs."

Edit - Hope the above works for you but I've just found this article too:

He reports that starting the PS3 in display settings mode works for him but that it means both video and audio are routed to the TV via HDMI. This is a new problem for him as he wanted to route the audio through his surround sound amp.

If you don't have surround sound it may work for your setup but, if you do, you could experience the same problem with the audio.

Good luck.

Yeah both of these problems seem similar to mine.... don't have surround sound so will have a play when i get home.

Thanks for your help :)

My problem is not when changing between DVD / Blu ray or games. It is when i initially turn on the system.

As in it either works fine. Or i get no picture. Without having to play around with the HDMI leads.

Also know it is not a dodgy HDMI lead as have borrowed my friends who uses it with his PS3.
