I have the R1 SE and was wondering whether the R2 version is worth getting with it's 5.1 sound.

I'm now a bit sceptical about these 5.1 re-mixes of older, mono films as they are usually pretty poor and they just seem to re-mix the score and nothing else.

So is the 5.1 sound on Conan any good?

Also, is there any extra extras that are not on the R1 version?

I can't seem to find any reviews of it on the net and this month's DVD Review mag says it's in mono

The UK version may still have the mandatory cuts to the horse fall stunts.

The only real advantage the R2 disc has over R1, is the 5.1 soundtrack.

New 2 disc release also has (according to a review I've read) DTS with a much better mix than the DD5.1 on the single disc SE.

Great review. Was disappointed with the single disc R2 SE, due to certain scenes being afflicted with severe motion blur, and strobing effects on some of the riding scenes. A lot of the movie was fine.

I was hoping the new 2 disc version had a higher bit rate and addressed some of these shortcomings.

Other action movies look great on my set up. Would appreciate your thoughts.

    Cheers.

Just compared back to back R1 SE against R2 SE (both single disc versions).

Image better (lighter crisper, no motion blurring, or strobing effects) on R1, but DD5.1 music better on R2.

If the new two disc SE has the R1 transfer quality and the better DTS 5.1 sound it will be a great buy. Any had similar issues with R2 releases.

BTW tried DVD in NTSC and PAL with no difference to PQ.

Looks like more 'double dipping' (as they say in the US) or 'treble dipping' as this'll be the THIRD version I have bought of this film but the the first R2 version.

I assume the R2 still has the same cuts?
punching the camel to name one.

    My all time fave too.......

Have just sold my single disc R2 SE and ordered the new two disc R2 SE to see if transfer is better. This will be my 3rd disc.

P.S I have the soundtrack too (sad)

Just read the review and it makes me want to see it again. The last time I saw it was ages ago!

Where’s the cheapest place selling the R2SE?

    Nothing sad about that.

It's one of the best film scores I have ever heard

Hmmm, I ‘m quite intrigued I saw this way back so don’t remember the soundtrack. I am a big fan of film soundtracks though so will have to hunt this down!

Apart from the fact it's cut (and probably still cropped of witchy butt) I see absolutely nothing in this set that makes me want to upgrade from my R1 CE.

That's the version i'm upgrading from.

Are you not interested in hearing the new DTS 5.1 mix?
This is the only reason why i bought it.

Any probs with motion blur ? Especially the pit fighting scenes early on.

    Nope because:

    a) I'm not a DTS whore
    b) I don't believe it can possibly be any good. I don't see the point of creating limited DTS remixes of mono movies.
