Hey,

I've been wanting surround sound for my TV for quite awhile now however instead of shelling out on a new set I thought I'd might be able to use my computer's. So, was wondering whether it was possible to connect the sound output from my TV (LG 32PG6000 32" Plasma TV - Gloss Black: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo) to the surround sound system which I use for the computer (Creative Inspiron 5.1 5300, they look something like this http://en.advisto.com/user_images/121490_8883_insp51.jpg). The problem is that the subwoofa inputs (Orange/Black/Green Connections) cannot go anywhere on the TV. All I want is for the TV sound to come through the surround sound speakers, whether it be watching freeview or playing the XBox/PS3. Is there any adapters or cables capable of solving this problem?

Cheers

PS, Sorry if this is the wrong forum for this type of issue but I thought it seemed most appropriate.

One issue, which way or may not be a concern, is that you wont get 5.1 from the tv, you'll only get pro logic. It should still be an improvement though.

I'm a little confused on the connectivity though. Usually these types of systems use mini jacks (3.5mm headphone jacks) to connect the speaker system to external devices. Also they dont include any sort of processing, so if you cant connect all your speakers to the tv, they wont all work. No amount of adapters will fix this problem.

For clarification, how does the speaker system connect to the source device (i.e tv, computer or whatever).

With these

That's fine.

All the speakers are connected to the subwoofa directly then the sub is connected to the computer with one of these:

It looks that that both ends of the cable. So one end plugs into the sub, the other in to the computer.

Thats simple then, use either the headphone output jack on the tv and plug your speakers into that, or if it has a phono audio output (as most do) you can simply by one of these:

You can get them from as little £2 depending on the quality of cable you want. Everything should work fine then :smashin:

EDIT: just wandering, did you mean the speakers use all 3 of those cables at both ends?

Generally:

Black = Rear left and right.
Green = Front left and right.
Orange = Center and Subwoofer.

You really need to attach it to a sound card to get the proceessing done onboard a computer :(

Mine just has the one audio output connection on it :( which is Optical Digital Audio.

The individual speakers are just connected to the subwoofer with one cable and jack each but the sub it self is connected to the computer with that lead I mentioned earlier with those 3 connections at either end of it.

Is your TV anywhere near the computer?
