Computer seems to keep dropping connection to the Internet

Hi all i had a problem a few months back where every minute my internet would lose connection. It turned out it was due to a fault with the extension line i was using so i am using my router plugged directly into the master socket. Job done and has now doubled my download speed.

Problem im having now is it starting to drop connection but there are no disconnections on the line. Im using a o2 wireless box and a cheap 56mbps wireless card.

I have checked to make sure that windows is not turning off the card to save power so it has got me thinking that the wireless card must be at fault.

What would people recommend as a half decent wireless card to replace mine with? Could only really go up to around £25-£30.

Also when i go into the router setting's it tells me it is running at around 4.8meg download and 1.2meg upload but speedtest.net tells me around half that.

Thank you

I have successfully used 'cheap' WiFi cards and they have all worked fine. I suggest a search of these forums on using tools like inSSIDer to fix WiFi interference problems, rather than swap the card out on the off chance.

As to Line Speed who is your ISP and what package are you on?

Im with o2 home broadband and when i was having major problems i contacted them and that got sorted. When it is dropping now there is no disconnections showing on the router so must be a problem on the computer side
