Electric car points in all new homes planned
Sounds like a good plan.
I wonder if they intent to standardise the charging points?
Same standard points at all locations, including houses, so any electric car can recharge at any point. Obviously some sort of locking device required at houses and payment card unlocking device on public charging points.
Makes sense to go a bit further with a new build - how about the ability to generate enough electricity to at least charge a car and contribute to the home's power needs? It must be cheaper to put things like solar collectors, storage and the associated systems & wiring in at the time of construction than to retrofit, so why not?
It certainly makes sense for every new house with a garage / driveway / carport to have the charging infrastructure to be part of the house build, even if it is just the pre-wire that allows manufacturer-specific bits to be connected after the event.
Why stop there? Why not every new build having greywater storage, ground/air heat pumps etc?
Yes for the charging part, but not the Compulsory.....for new homes parts
Surely if you are going to start making some stuff compulsory then do it properly so economies of scale sees the costs of production and installation of all these type systems come right down and mainstream.
