Compress AVI File

Hi there, im writing a bunch of AVI's onto a dvd (not dvd format) and im 40mb over the disc capacity and i need this one file on the disc, its 699mb and i have to reduce it by 40mb, iv tryed WinRAR and this other avi compress but because it was a trial i didnt get sound
