    Hi,
    I've just got the sony hx510 dvd recorder.If i connect it up to my tv(hitachi 32ld7200)using the component cable do i also have to connect a scart cable to my tv.

    no, but you may have to switch component on in your dvd set up

    not unless you tv has built in freeview, then you would need to send the free view channels to your dvd recorder via scart, but having done a quick search on your model it seems it does not

    No need for Scart, but you will need seperate audio connections, component is video only.
