i have a spare input on my component switch which would save another cable to the TV. or should i bite the bullet and add cabling which is anyway inevitable with PS3/bluray? realistically will there be any noticable difference? will sky force the use of HDMI as the recent ppt suggested?

I believe the early SKY HD boxes will come with TWO hdmi sockets, perhaps you can route another hdmi product through that and then to your tv?

As for the hdmi/component debate; My dvds look awesome through my xbox 360 component [1080i] input and I cannot see any difference in quality.
I believe hdmi is more about protecting broadcasters content than image quality but i may be wrong.

No, just one iirc from the photos I've seen
From what? Since the xbox 360 doesn't output DVDs at 1080i, and it is notoriously rough at playing them back, I'm kind of suprised by that.
I totally agree with your last comment there.

If you want the best route of having more then 1 HDMI through 1 HDMI socket, then buy a HDMI switcher.

I have yet to see hdmi look better than component on any device, and nearly eveytime I find it looks worse, with slightly crushed blacks and more digital noise.

I have however seen displays with awful analogue inputs so hdmi in actually looks better but that is a different matter.

Been told by SKY that first boxes would have HDMI and component out for HD and scart for standard def, presumably RGB.

No one is saying that you're not happy with it though. :)

What Choddo2006 was (rightly) saying is that the XBOX 360 does not upscale DVDs to 720p or 1080i as you originally suggested, it merely plays them like any other non upscaling DVD player (& having tested a couple of DVDd on mine I'm not overly impressed with it as a DVD player I must confess)

I compared my Xbox 360 yesterday with an old Sony DVP-S735 DVD player (5years old) and the Sony blew it away. Even the Mrs noticed :rotfl: It must of been bad.
