    All,

I am currently looking to purchase a dvd recorder to replace my ageing dvd player and video recorder. My current dvd player is connect via qed squart video only and i was wondering should i be looking to get a dvd recorder with component out and progressive scan, or would this not give me any improvments in picture quality???

    Help please!!!

    marshy.dave,
please do a search for this and make up your own mind.
This topic has been done to death IMO.
Some say yes, while others say no!!

If you can get a home demo let your eyes decide for you.

I've got a 42PD3000 and a Yamaha S-540 DVD player and I've got the DVD connected to the plasma via component.

Now I know the 42PD3000 is an ALIS panel and is, by definition, interlaced but I've tried PAL (but not NTSC as I don't have any R1 discs) progressive scan and the picture was a little better but not much but it did seem to stretch the picture vertically so lost a bit of the picture top and bottom - this was most noticeable on menus.

I'm not using the progressive scan capabilities of the player any more but I'm sticking with the component connection as it leaves the two RGB scarts on the media box free for Sky+ and my XBOX.
