I'm going to be wall-mounting my plasma about 1.5m above the floor. Originally I had intended to run all my cables (Component/HDMI/Audio) through the wall, under the skirting, and up to where I though would be a good place to have my audio equipment. This would be about 8.5m away. After looking at costs of cables (say 10m off-the-shelf) it's looking like it's gonna cost me around £200 at least. My other option is to have some sort ov AV rack under the plasma.

    My questions are:

Would it be substantially cheaper to have all my AV equipment 2m away?
Would I have to opt for very expensive cables for the longer distance (10m) to ensure quality signal over this distance?
Does anyone have suggestions for reasonable quality cabling (Component/HDMI/Audio) that would give good results at this length?

I'd prefer to have everything out of the way as I could then convince my girlfriend to get a coffee table (she doesn't want to have both the AV rack and the coffee table because she thinks this would take up too much space). But if it's going to double the cost... I might have to consider the other option.

Please help! I want my coffee table! :)

The general rule is that the further the cable run the more important it is to install well engineer cables - that said a lot of the money in a cable is in the manufacturing and the relative cost between a well engineered 2m and 10m cable need not be that high.

What's the kit list and maybe we can simplify your connectivity options.

I'm looking to go 'short' for component cables, to tidy up the vipers nest at the back of my amp more than anything else. Anyone recommend any short cables that are just long enough to go from one separate to the next, say 25cm?
    Thanks,
    Dave.

Oh well, my girlfriend got her wish and we are now the proud owners of a lovely AV cabinet about 2m wide and 400mm high. Nice cabinet from Elephant on Tottenham Court Road who are having a closing down sale. In the end we got:

    Qunex Component P-CV1 (3m)
    QUNEX HDMI–P (3m)
    Profigold Audio Interconnect (3m)

All setup and working nicely. Thanks for the help.

A set of VanDamme 75 Ohm RCA to RCA cables could be made to order at 25cm.

    Best regards

How much would that cost, Joe?
    Thanks,
    Dave.
