Dear all, can a component cable carry a UHD signal from, say, Sky TV? I know I would need to convert back at the projector end to HDMI and I believe it would be fine for HD but I am buying a UHD capable projector and wonder if I will need a mahoosive HDMI cable plumbed in to suit? Thanks in advance, R.

UHD is HDMI only. SkyQ boxes are HDMI out only with a digital optical for audio if needed. You would also need a premium certificed cable or specialist cable if it's a long run.

Thanks for this! I currently convert HDMI into Component to make use of the previously installed Component cable and convert back at the projector. I now want to buy a new projector with UHD capability and hoped I could continue to use the plumbed in RGB. Of course if the cable doesn’t “handle” 4K UHD then I will need to get the carpets up and get a good quality 7m HDMI cable laid but was hoping I wouldn’t need to?

There is no current option to run a 4K UHD signal over your three core 'Component' video cable - time to replace the cable, ideally you will want to test the HDMI cable in your system before you 'install' it and ideally you install it in a way which makes for easy replacement should cut ever fail, be damaged or become obsolete.
