Comparing the QN90A and a 13 yr old Plasma and LG C1

I'm trying to decide on getting the LG C1 or Samsung NQ90A while they are on sale ... I've done quite a bit of research and it took a lot to narrow down to these choices. I read info regarding the brightness (good for bright rooms) but is the NQ90A good for dark rooms?

We currently sit looking directly into the 13 yr old Panasonic 50" plasma that I want to "just simply" upgrade to a 65" and the choices and info is maddening. Occasionally, watch some tennis or something from the side (if guests or working at a desk toward the side). How is the NQ90A for 50% angle? I could fix with a swivel (like the one that is built into the Panasonic).

And brightness... comparing the Plasma, I want some good blacks ... how does the Samsung compare? And I understand the OLED (LG C1) is great with blacks, but I'm concerned about burn in and glare (though I've never had burn in with the Plasma...

We pay the "big bucks" to keep cable for the DVRs an to skip commercials. We often will pause a tennis match, for example, 30 minutes to get past commercials and zip thru the match. It sounds, here, the Samsung is ahead.

During the day there is a window very near the tv and at an angle, 45 degrees. There are times we pull the curtain if necessary but it's very rare. I assume the Samsung isn't as reflective, so it seems it would do better there, correct?

I wish I could just purchase $1600 tvs on a whim... but, for example, the Plasma is 13 yrs old and it's been great. Just want a bigger screen... can you help?

I have not seen the QN90A myself, but it's worth keeping in mind that it uses an ADS/IPS panel in at least parts of Europe while using a VA panel in the US. You therefore need to be careful when reading reviews for it since it will effectively be an entirely different TV in terms of performance characteristics (worse black levels/contrast ratio but better viewing angles). The model with a VA panel is supposedly very good for dark room viewing (although the OLED will always be better). In the EU, that means you have to look at the QN95A or possibly QN91A-QN93A range if available in your region.

The C1 should display a screensaver after 2 minutes of static content but purposefully showing static content routinely is of course not ideal.

I've recently upgraded from a 50" Kuro to a C1 77.

I havnt seen a modern QLED like the Samsung in real viewing conditions so can only give you half the story ...

I would say the LG OLEDS like mine are poor in well lit living room daytime use, its quite reflective and brightness is marginal for this situation, I mean it would probably be fine for casually watching sport in this situation but you wouldn't want to watch a movie like this.

The C1 shines as a dedicated low ambient light home cinema set - a job that it does spectacularly well though and thats what I bought it for. Things like the Expanse and Foundation are just jaw dropping with the pure black and all.

I guess its a case of what use case do you want to optimise for ? - social/casual sports viewing or serious movie/series watching ?.

I would imagine that the NQ90A is still very capable as home cinema screen though, I've not seen this set in use but I've seem some very modestly priced LED sets with pretty decent picture quality including decent black levels - a old 40" LG led (*) that I bought for my girlfriend for £400 actually has better black levels than my Kuro ! so I think when you see comments about black levels being "not as good as OLED" you have to remember that the bar has been raised a lot since the plasma days.

(*) - as someone mentioned above about VA panels ... this set was a VA panel set and I can confirm that VA panel black levels are REALLY good, as in near-OLED level.
