    Dear all,
I am supposed to buy an amplifier as a present to a friend.
After several analysis, considering price and what my friend like, I reduced the choice between 2 possibilities: the Marantz SR4500 and the Denon AVR 1905.
My friend needs an ampliefier to set up an home theater but he is also a music and Hi-Fi fan, therefore I would like to buy something that then matched with the proper speakers, can work as a good hometheater and as a very good Hi-Fi.

Does any of you can help me to make this choice??
Which are the main differences between the 2 amplifiers??

    Thanks
    Pippo

They seem reasonably well matched on paper and looks. My instinct tells me the Denon is better with music but that is not to say the Marantz is bad. It may come down to availability and in that respect it may have to be the Marantz because some have posted difficulty obtaining 1905's due to them being 'end of line'.

I think it's the other way around...

In real world prices Marantz are one of the most musical AVReceivers, with NAD, Arcam, Rotel...

Denon are great machines, but not as musical.

I must have a listen to one then. I said instinct because I have not read too many converted audiophiles singing Marantz's praises, while I read a lot of positive comments about Denons musical abilities. I think my Denon would be hard to beat for what I paid, but then it gives me some comfort to do so! :)

From personal experience (having owned both Marantz and Denon systems) I would agree with Falp that the marantz is better musically but the denon is better at HT work.

My personal driver was for HT as I have a seperate hi-fi system and therefore currently have a Denon AVR2805. It certainly isnt BAD at hi-fi but there are others out there that are better.

    Hi again,
    it seems opinions are different.
Yesterday I visited a famous shop in Rome, very advanced in selling Amplifiers, HI-Fis and HT. Also there it seems opinions are different.
The one I heard yesterday is that Denon has a higher current, and even if power out is same for both 80W, for Hi-Fi purposes the higher current would make the difference in the sound.

    What do you think??

Forget it... the Marantz can get around 5x80w real watts, I doubt if the Denon can get 5x50w...

Have a look at any review measurement...

I was not talking about power, but current.
What I was told is that Denon has more current and this is giving a better sound.
Regarding power, the 2 technical notes say they are both 7 channels for 80W.
But if you tell me this is not reality, I believe it

The same for current I think...

But take a look at same reviews measurements... like the ones from homecinemachoice online

The problem is that each amp can get that power, but not simultaneously...

I went to homecinemachoice, but I couldn't find the 2 specific model, Denon 1905 and Marantz 4500
Do you know where to find reviews about them??

    Thanks a lot

Take a look at the 1604 and 4400, or the new 5500 and 2105 reviews.

They have the same amps of current models, only diferent processors...
