So, whoever wins the comp better look out if they choose Church, Wedding, Bridge, Bridge or mental big castle in the middle of a French town at night for the next theme then

Yeah i wonder what the theme it will be. Really we should all go out and take a pic for the comp rather then going through old pics. Like these two

I took those pics with £1300 worth of camera (Nikon D100 and NIkkor lens). Just goes to show that the right gear in the wrong hands is not a good idea:rolleyes:

The dog is called sonny, it's a fantastic dog

    Steve,

great photos - if I may I'd make a couple of suggestions (and this is only to improve on what are great photos already)

    1. On the daytime bridge photo - clone out the little white thing in the water bottom right. And the house roof top left. Find them both really distracting.

    2. Rotate both the night shots to straighten them up.

    I really like:

    Shot of the Loir.
The Chateaux at Samur this one in paticular. :smashin:
    The Bridge at night.

Not to sure about the sepia shot the angle is right, but what was the reason for knocking the colours out. I used it on the duck to accentuate the water patterns; I also take old urban scenes to make them look as though it was taken ages ago this way.

Those were the best ones of about 30 photos I took. Photographers at work both said the best one was the wedding one. I like them all :D

Some nice photos there Steve, I like the night shots best.
Whilst I was in Portugal this year, I took over 500 photos and have since been messing about by cropping them. It's amazing how much difference it can make to a photo by cropping - and I'm only using Microsoft Photoeditor to do mine !

Taken at the same place turton & entwistle res garrett,. about 10 miles out of bury on the the way to blackburn its a really beautiful place. There's a great pub called the strawberry duck that's famous for its bangers and mash (lover of) but it does other really great food to (huge amounts)

You can walk all the way round it and there is loads of other walks to do. It's 3 miles round. really beautiful place

    Steve

The long shot of the bridge at night looks great. Looks like it's just going dark so you've retained some blue in the sky. All I'd do is crop the blurry stuff off the bottom of the image and straighten the horizontal on the horizon then it'll be

The church shot is just a touch overexposed on the outside. Again maybe crop in on the interest in shot.

But some good stuff there fella. Going to be some competition in this monthly comp of yours then?

    Chris

I have just been laying about with the camera to be honest Chris, faffing about with all the settings and trying to learn what the manual settings will give me in certain situations. Now i've managed to upgrade to an A95 I feel as though I have a decent enough camera, just need to learn how to use the thing now :)

    Thanks for the comments

Great shots Steve, especially the night shot of Bridge (though bottom needs cropping & slightly out of focus). Composition of shots is also impressive. Have added cropped verison of bridge, with picture sharpened, probably too much (shots gone grainy) to show a diff view of same shot.

I would agree with others that cropping of shots can make a big difference to impact of a shot. Try cropping some landscape shots to a panoramic shape to see what I mean (see example below), or crop really tight on a portrait shot (Sean did a good one when selling D100, with only half his missus's face showing...worked a treat )

You sure the tap shot wasn't a ploy to get sympathy for the next round  ;)
