Browsing through the October issue of the Comet sales paper I came across this add for the Philips DVDR70 which made me smile. I quote "compatible playback: CD/DVD/CD-R
CD-RW/VCD/MP3/DVD-R/DVD-RW" Not once does it mention +R +RW. Are Comet pulling a fast one here to fool customers with little or no knowledge of the formats, is it a genuine omission, or is there some other agenda?

There is alot of confusion about DVDR formats and standards. Around 60% of consumers aren't even aware there are different DVDR formats let alone the benefits/drawbacks of each type. I have also stood in stores and heard salesman say the E50 will record onto DVD+RW disks! The whole DVDR market is one big mess - hopefully BluRay will bring order to chaos - but as things stand now that looks like it might be even worse with no less than 15 BluRay formats currently being actively developed
