Codec Specs for Bravia

Established Member
Not sure if anyone will be able to help with this, but I have a Sony Bravia 403 and it can play .avi's over USB amoung other things, it also has independant set of capabilities over DLNA.

I'm mostly using USB and converting HD files to m2ts, but the are some standard .avi's that do not work and I don't know why. E.G:

This file plays fine

Video: Xvid 624x352 23.98fps 1033Kbps [Video 0]
Audio: MPEG Audio Layer 3 48000Hz stereo 128Kbps [Audio 1]

whereas this one will say "not supported"

Video: Xvid 624x352 23.98fps 1026Kbps [Video 0]
Audio: MPEG Audio Layer 3 48000Hz stereo 128Kbps [Audio 1]

Seem the same to me with exception of bitrate but wouldn't have thought it would have a problem with that. Is there more to video files the tele considers other than what I've specified above?

Why not use software like Mezzmo or PMS to transcode on the fly for you. It would save having to covert files and make problem ones like above work.
