Which one is the best way for connecting your dvd player to your amp?
    Or is it the same?

Pretty much the same IMHO, although many people prefer one over the other. I use co-ax (haven't heard any difference between the two on my system), but if you are looking at a long run, say over 2m, an optical may be better.

I also preffer the coaxial. I feel it gives more base and depth to the sound. Coaxial is also more direct than optical.

Im not sure how it is, but somone told me that optical has to go through 2 converters on either end, while optical only goes through one?. This might be nonsense or not, but to my ears Coaxial does sound better.

One thing that does matter is the cable quality. If you use an expensive cable rather than a cheap one, you will hear a big difference with either one.
