I am changing my dvd player - at the moment I have to use optical digital out to my Kenwood kRF 5030 receiver. My new player only has coaxial digital out.

Will this audio signal be as good / better than optical and do I use a standard good quality phono lead for the digital coaxial connection?

If you want to use the phono style connection you need to make sure the cable is 75ohm for digital. Normal audio phono leads are 50ohm and should not be used.
As to which sounds better, coax or optical, only you will know if you try it out with you own setup.

In an absolute sense, the coax should be better than optical although at most normal levels it really doesn't make a huge difference. A phono cable will do the job but I would recommend the digital cable available from Mark Grant in the Powerbuy section as these are stonking for £20.
