Software release notes applicable to models DV88, DV88P and DV27

    Software release notes for V1.81

    • An improvement to the file handling for MP3 files has been implemented (longer file names are supported).
    Software release notes for V1.8

    • Audio dropout problem on DTS streams has now been improved.
    Software release notes for V1.79

    • The software upload mechanism has been improved so that it does not fail. On the upload disc, the files dvd8.bin and
crc.txt are now required. Note that upgrading any previous version of software to this version should be done twice for the
    full benefit.

    • A new menu option has been added to the service menu to change the PLL setting on the progressive scan board (where
fitted). This may help to remove some compatibility problems with certain TVs.
    Software release notes for v1.78

    • The format of the version number displayed when the player is powered-up (or brought out of standby) has changed.
    Previously:
    1.77 -- Software version
    02 -- ARCAM shipping region
    Now:
    1.79/LT37/02/02
    This is:
Software Version/ Transport Firmware Version/ Shipping Region/ Disc Region
This new method introduces an additional 2-second delay before the player responds to commands (due to the overhead of
reading the Transport Firmware Version). This means that remote controls that support macros may have to be
reprogrammed to cope with the initial delay (otherwise the remote control may start sending commands before the player is
    ready to receive them).

    • Players with LT Transports will run the drive at a slower speed (i.e., quieter) when playing CDDAs.
    Software release notes for v1.77

    • The mistake that caused the drawer to open sometimes on power-on (introduced in v1.76) has been fixed.

    • A “Closed Caption” option has been added to the “Subtitle” menu item. If selected, closed captions from the disc will be
displayed. Closed captions will be off with all other options.
    Software release notes for v1.76

    • Pluge (below black) menu item.
Until now, it has not been possible to perform a “pluge” test using the DV88/27. A “Below Black” menu item has been added
(to the bottom of menu two), which has the options “Normal”, for normal viewing of material, and “Pass Pluge” for when the
    pluge test is being performed.

    • Toggle-bit in remote codes.
The dependence on the toggle bit in our RC5 remote codes has been removed. This means that the unit should be
    controllable using non-ARCAM learning remotes.

    • “LOAD” brings the player out of standby.
Pressing the “LOAD” button on the front panel when the player is in standby mode brings the player out of standby and opens
    the draw.

    • CD skip-back works at 1 second.
It had been noted that the skip-back when a CD is being played did not work if pressed at exactly 1-second into a track. This
    is now fixed.

    • Single channel mono now available on analogue outputs.
Some VCDs have a different language on the left and right channels. A menu option has been added (“Analogue output”,
page 3) that allows the selection of the left or right channel only (as mono output). Note that this setting applies to the
analogue output regardless of the disk type.

    • CR9000 support.
The support for the CR9000 learning remote has changed.
The “arrow” keys must be reprogrammed to emit “arrows”, not the commands shown on the keys (such as “stop”, “pause”),
    as previously.

    • Player must be reset after the self-test has been run.
After the self-test has been run, the player will accept no further input until it has been reset.

    Access of Zone 2.
3.The "SR Treble" can not be selected when SBL/SBR is none.
4.VFD display info "EX Settings" change to "EX Set".
5.OSD display Info "DTS Lfe" change to "DTS LFE".

sometimes Volume VFD/OSD is not shown.
8.The VFD text "Sub Woof Set" is changed to "Woofer Set" when on Subw oofer menu
    operation.
9.Update the Lip Sync display info on the VFD when adjusting Lip sync value.

    For V3.16

    AV8 Software Version 3 Addendum

There have been several software enhancements made to the AV8 in addition to the functionality described within the user manual. These are described in this addendum.

    SCART CONTROL

BASIC MENU 1 – GENERAL SETTINGS

The setting in Main Menu 1 of the Video Type (aspect ratio) which controls the output on the Video Trigger outputs on the rear panel can be set for each input. In earlier versions of software this setting was global and applied to all selected sources. It is now possible to set individual settings for each source.

ADDITION OF DOLBY DIGITAL SURROUND EX

Dolby Digital Surround EX mode has been added. This provides rear channel extraction for surround back speakers. This is selected using the mode button on the front panel or remote whilst the unit is decoding a Dolby Digital stream.
Note that if THX Surr. EX control is set to ‘Auto’ in Basic Menu 6 – THX Settings, the presence of EX flags in the incoming stream will cause the unit to switch to THX Surround EX (assuming you have surround back speakers). If you do not want this to happen, set the control to ‘Manual’.
    INPUT NAME

    ADVANCED MENU 6

The displayed input name can be given a new name, up to a maximum of 13 characters. This is set in Advanced Menu 6 – Input Name.
All possible sources are shown on entering the menu. To rename an input, move the highlight bar to the name you wish to change: you are prompted to ‘Press OK To Edit Name’. Pressing OK causes a flashing cursor to appear on the first character.
Now use UP/DOWN to change the character, and LEFT/RIGHT on the remote (or the Control knob) to move the position of the cursor. When you have finished entering the name, press OK to store the new name.
If at any point of the name editing process you wish to exit the ‘edit mode’, pressing MENU returns the name of the selected input to its last saved name.
Note that input names are not stored as part of the presets. Therefore if the input names are changed, these names apply irrespective of the preset recalled.

    PRESET SAVING OPTIONS

In the Save Settings menu, pressing OK when “Press OK to save” is shown takes you to a further menu: the Preset Saving Option menu. This menu gives you the option to change which settings are saved for each preset.
    The following options are available:
    Volume Setting
If ‘Yes’ is selected, the volume for Zone 1 is recalled when selecting this preset.
    Input Source
If ‘Yes’ is selected, the saved audio and video input sources are recalled when this preset is recalled.
    Src Specific Items
Each Source has its own value for each of the following settings. The preset stores all of these settings for each source.
If ‘Yes’ is selected, the following settings are saved for this preset:
     Decode Mode
     Downmix Setting
     THX Setting
     Effect Mode
    Main Menu Screen 1
     Video Type
     Bass
     Treble
    Main Menu Screen 2
     Lip Sync
Advanced Menu 5 – Input Trims
 Analogue Input Gain settings for all sources.

    ZONE 2 SETTINGS

If ‘Yes’ is selected, the following items are saved:
     Zone 2 Audio Source
     Zone 2 Video Source
    In Advanced Menu 4 – Zone2
     Zone 2 Max Vol
     Zone 2 Fix Vol
 Zone 2 Max On Vol
     Zone 2 OSD
     Zone 2 Access

    3 RECORD LOOP SETTINGS

If ‘Yes’ is selected, the following items are saved:
    Main Menu Screen 2
     Record to Tape
     Record to VCR
Once you have selected what settings you wish to save, highlight the ‘SAVE’ text and press OK.
After saving, you are returned to the ‘Save Settings’ Menu. To leave the menu without saving any changes, highlighting ‘DO NOT SAVE’ and pres OK, or press the MENU button.

    RS232 INTERFACE

To allow control of the extra functionality, the RS232 interface has the following additions:

    QUERIES
?THX can now return the value ‘5’ to indicate Dolby Digital Surround EX.

    GENERAL OPERATIONS

THXy: THX Mode selection, where y can now take the value 5 to switch the unit to Dolby Digital Surround EX (assuming that this is allowed by the current configuration).

    ADVANCED INPUT NAME
    INPNin where i is the input number (2 = AUX, 3 = CD, 4 = TUNER, 5 = DVD, 6 = SAT, 7 = AV, 8 = MULTICHANNEL, 9 = TAPE, A = VCR) andn is the new input name, with a maximum of 13 characters.

Please note that programming support for the AV8 is available from Crestron UK and Crestron Electronics, Inc.
View Crestron’s website (www.crestron.co.uk) for details.
Note: In issues 2.0 to 2.4 of the AV8 software, the 12V trigger outputs for zone 1 and zone 2 were reversed. This has been corrected from issue 2.5.
If you are using trigger outputs and are upgrading from a software version previous to 2.5, you will need to reverse the connections.

    Thanks Crustyloafer!

    This deserves a sticky!

One more thing, it would be nice to state how can owners identify witch firmware version their players have.

To identify the current version of firmware on your DVD player it is displayed briefly upon powering up at the top of the screen, alternatively it is easier to enter the Engineers menu and check the version there. To do this follow these steps:

    1. Press 'Setup'
    2. Press '4792'
    3. Select 'Version' and press 'Ok'

This procedure applies to all of the most recent version of player but i'm not sure about the original DV88 and DV27.

I should also note that anyone planning to update the firmware on the AVR250 or AVR300 that does not have DSP version 1.12 should apply this before applying any other updates.

    Hello Crustyloafer

    EDIT: ALL SORTED, THANKS.

I was wondering if you are able to supply me with the latest firmware for an Arcam DV27A that I am having a few issues with, I bought it second hand off the forum. I have never bought anything Arcam from my local dealer so don't know if they would help me and the dealer I bought my other Arcam gear from is down in London and has now closed down.

    Cheers

    Chris
