As per subject header :) Don't fancy buying the R1 as it's non-anamorphic NTSC and R2/4 are 4:3 P&S. Anyone heard anything about a possible new SE release that will be anamorphic?

I've not seen any Kevin Smith film other than Mallrats, but everybody seems to like Kevin Smith so I thought I'd start buying his movies and joining the bandwagon after Gambit talked me into it :D

As much as a money whore (hey, he admits it :)) Kevin Smith is, I doubt he'd release his films again considering the R1 releases all come with tons of deleted scenes, commentaries and other extras.

Clerks was supposedly made for $27,000 so it's never going to look great whatever they do to it. I'd definitely recommend it though. It's a great film regardless of the picture quality.

Cheers. I can't find it on R2 though so I'm thinking maybe a future R2 release would come with an anamorphic transfer. What do you reckon? :)

I have Clerks on VHS. You can have it if you want it, then the wait for the anamorphic DVD wont be so bad.
I will send it with the other items if you like;)

Alright Mac, thanks, very kind of you :) I wouldn't mind a watch to see if the DVD is worth buying as I've never seen it. I'll return it to you pronto as soon as I've watched it :)

Stick it in the same parcel as the hydraulic sex toys please ;)

As has been said I wouldn't worry about getting this in anamorphic - it was filmed in B&W and a combination of 8mm & 16mm if I remember rightly.

I can see the scanlines on non-anamorphic NTSC though Lex as I have a CRT. It looks 'orrible :( If it turns out to be a pucker movie though and the existing Criterion is all there is, then I'll have to get it.

Hey SG,as you know this film always vies for the no1 spot with me,(along with `Once were warriors`) I have heard rumour of a special edition coming sometime, although the Region 1 is pretty much packed with goodies, will try and find some more info for you.

CDwow have a R2/4 dual encoded one quite cheap, I would have sold you mine but just sold it to Gamit.

BTW kevin Smith is brilliant, anything he lays his hands on turns out to be great.

He is also writing and producing Scary movie 3 so we'll see what that turns out like.

There will be a tenth anniversary Clerks re-issue in R1 next year.

Anamorphic, new additional commentary and the missing 'Making of Jay and Silent Bob Strike back' documentary.

    How do I know?

Read it on www.newsaskew.com some months ago.

To be honest, I thought about searching for it and linking to this post, but couldn't be bothered!

    :)

OK I lied, It was easier than I thought, here's the link from Friday Nov 1st 2001:

Naturally, Kevin's post prompted a TON of questions, a lot of which he was kind enough to answer. You might be interested to know the following:
Jersey Girl begins shooting in July 2002.

Kevin will start writing "Clerks: Sell Out" with Dave Mandel once he's done drafting "Jersey Girl".

On the Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back Documentary: "We haven't even had time to load all the material into the Avid (let alone cut it together), and Dimension wanted to lock up the DVD release of "Jay and Silent Bob" by this week (i.e. - any material on the DVD had to be in by Wednesday). It was either do two editions of "Jay and Bob" (one stripped down and one SE, as Col/Tristar did with "Dogma"), or do one edition of "Jay and Silent Bob" and stick the massive documentary on the already-in-the-pipeline "Clerks" re-release. The latter made more sense, as most people want "Jay and Silent Bob" and couldn't give two sh*ts about a documentary."

And speaking of that Clerks SE: "It's just going to have the three to four hour documentary, a new, extra-long cut of the flick that's digitially restored with footage never before seen, and a new commentary track with ALL the leads (Brian, Jeff, Marilyn, Lisa, Mewes, Mosier, and me). The disc is still two years away, mind you.". The disc will be released in 2004 to celebrate the film's 10th anniversary, so don't put those pre-orders in just yet.

Oh, don't mention it, my pleasure!
