Recently came across the suggestion to use Scotch tape to remove all kinds of foreign matter from lenses and filters. Tried it and found the results to be excellent--fingerprints and dust removed perfectly. But a professional protographer told me that the tape might leave residue and could possibly remove the lens coating. Couldn't find any residue with a magnifier after using the tape, but have no idea whether it affects lens coating. Does anyone have any experience with using Scotch tape in this way or any ideas about it?

Don't know if Scotch tape residue could damage the lens coating, but trying to remove any residue certainly could! Try the Lenspen - very good product & easy to carry in a pocket/bag.

After you remove the scotch tape, clean the lens with scotch tape remover,
then clean with scotch tape remover remover, then if your lucky, you wont have to use the scotch tape remove remover coating remover :hiya:

I've heard of scotch tape being used to clean sensors in digital slr's, so lenses shouldn't be an issue. It is a specific 'tackiness' level though, if I remember correctly it is the blue 811 tape, but in between AV, photography, motorbikes, kids and dogs I just don't get the time to follow the tape market any more so it might have changed.
