Is it ok to use spectacle lens cleaner on the CRT lenses? (inner and outer sides)

I guess this will cover the LCD PJ, CRT FP & CRT RP forums.

    Thanks

Nathan, you might be better off using neat alcohol or something that competely evaporates and doesnt leave a residue (think of halogen bulbs)

Lens cleaner doesn't leave a residue. I'm thinking it should be OK.

Isopropyl alchohol can be bought from a chemist for a couple of quid, and it is often used for delicate lens cleaning jobs. I've used it for cleaning laser lenses and the like. Wouldn't like to recommend it for RPTV in case the lens has a coating that is sensitive to it. Some spectacle cleaners contain anti-misting agents, so I'd be careful there too.

I've just checked the label on the of bottle Isopropyl alchohol bottle I have: 100ml, bought in Apr 1999 from a local pharmacy for about £2-£2.50. I remember they asked why I wanted it, and I explained that it was to clean the lens on a cdrom player and that was that.

If chemists don't sell it now, I think you'll find that some video/audio tape head cleaning products are just solutions of IA and distilled water.

I've just cleaned the lens- only used a drop per lens- they weren't that dirty- just a couple of splodges of stuff. Also noticed some splodges of stuff on the mirror too, and a couple of smears. Strange as I cleaned the mirror last time.
